A complete guide to creating your own naturalist or anthropomorphic taxidermy mouse.

If you've ever fancied enlivening your mantelpiece with dancing, singing, pipe-smoking or motorbike-riding mice, then this book is for you. Taxidermy has been accepted, both as a craft and an art, for centuries, and is once again making a place for itself in the homes of thousands of enthusiasts. All it takes to learn to stuff your own animals is a little basic knowledge and a creative imagination.

Margot Magpie, who teaches the perennially sold-out taxidermy course at The Last Tuesday Society in London, takes you through the step-by-step process of mouse taxidermy from ethically sourcing your rodents, to preservation, stuffing, and positioning. By the end, you'll have a happy little mouse, a quirky talking point for your living room and a new experience to tell your friends about.

Seventy easy to follow steps that teach you to skin, prep, preserve, mount and position a mouse in under four hours.

A fully illustrated guide. Each step is accompanied by a close up photograph of the author at work.

Mouse A Taxidermy Workshop Manual Margot Magpie

My girlfriend wants to taxidermy mice into fun poses and situations. This book is EXACTLY what she wanted, and very clear and focused on the steps you need to take. I love the idea, the focus, the design, all of that.

What I hate are some of the technical details of how the ebook was produced:
1. It is not supported on all Kindle devices. While I understand not supporting the grayscale e-Ink devices, I don't understand why the "Kindle for PC" device is not supported. I don't have a Kindle Fire or any other large-format color Kindle device (I have a DX, but that is e-Ink), so I really need computer support. So I have to use the Cloud Reader, but...
2. Either the Cloud Reader sucks or the image quality does. As near as I can tell, each page is a PICTURE of the page (text and all) instead of a layout full of text with embedded quality pictures. Which means that I can't zoom in on anything. And even if I could, it wouldn't do any good, because the pictures of the pages are so low resolution that the text is fuzzy even when I'm viewing the entire page. The pictures of the actual operations on the mice suffers from this low resolution fuzziness as well, which is not helped by:
3. Pictures do not take advantage of available space. This is an ebook, not a printed book, so there is no real reason to avoid having one step per page and letting the picture fill most of the page. Mice are small, and the things you are trying to show the reader are also small. Make it as big as possible. Also:
4. Pictures of white mice on a white background are a challenge to properly reproduce. A gray or colored background (blue?) might provide better contrast for the white, pink, and red objects in the scene.

Again, I love the idea, content, and general presentation. I am ecstatic that Margot Magpie created this workshop. It was EXACTLY the best Christmas present I could give my girlfriend. And my complaints may only be relevant to the Cloud Reader, because I have no way to tell if it is the content or the reader causing the problem. But I feel that the technical implementation of the ebook harmed the final result considerably.

I do realize that this is the first release of this, and am hopeful that some of these technical issues might be addressed and a revision released.

Mouse A Taxidermy Workshop Manual Margot Magpie Reviews

It's very good and detailed it would be good if it had an anatomy page so we know what exact part she's taking about because it can get a bit confusing
I purchased this book because a friend of mine recommended it. I have to say, this is just what I was looking for! It is well written and includes the perfect pictures and illustrations for each step, which was really important to me. If you've ever wanted to try your hand at taxidermy, this is the perfect book.
